Makena Coffee Estate is a family farm that belongs to Mr. Japheth. It is located in Gariama location, Rung’eto sub-location in Kirinyaga County. This estate is about 20 km from Embu town. It rests on the slopes of Mt. Kenya, nestled in Kenya's agriculturally rich Central Province.Makena Coffee Factory is dressed with red-volcanic soil that infuses it with all the mineral and organic goodness necessary for optimum production. Timely and selective hand picking of red-ripe cherry is carried out in Makena estate. Cherry is delivered to wet mill the same day it is picked. Cherry sorting is carried out at the wet mill prior to the pulping. Red ripe cheries are separated from underipes, overripe and foreign matter. Nyamindi river is the source of water for the Makena Estate.
