Coffee Information

Reaching to Mwito CWS takes the longest for all the RTC washing stations, and when RTC acquired the mill in 2017, farmers in the area also felt the remoteness of where they live. After seeing the beauty of the site located at the shores of Lake Kivu and the farmer’s commitment to growing quality coffee, RTC wanted to bring light to this place. RTC started by gathering a full list of the coffee farmers in the community, grouping them by neighborhoods to facilitate access to our agronomy training. In 2019, RTC built a kindergarten school for the coffee farmers’ children, which currently host over 150 3–6-year-old, boys and girls. RTC is also keeping cows at the station to provide organic fertilizer for a 5Ha learning model farm, and the milk produced by the cows is for feeding the students. The coffee from this area is outstanding, and the potential for what we can do together with the community is immense.

The company exports a significant portion of Rwanda's annual coffee production. RTC's model is built on trust and a commitment to creating resilient and transparent supply chains to
secure economic freedom for smallholder farmers

– Infrastructure: The company owns and operates 19 wet milling stations and works with over 60 independent wet mills across the country.

– Farmer Support: They work directly with an extensive network of over 82,000 small-plot farmers, providing immediate cash payments at the time of sale.

– Training Programs: RTC offers various training programs to farmers, including financial literacy, agribusiness management, and agronomy training, to increase yield and profitability.

– Traceability: Over 80% of their coffee is fully traceable back to the individual farmer, which helps secure better prices for the producers.

– Community Investment: The company has initiated projects to distribute over 5 million young coffee seedlings to farmers by 2025 to help rejuvenate old coffee trees and increase future income.
